Our Team
Nekeia Turner is the proud founder of Balance & Gravity Cares Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to uplifting and empowering teen girls in the community through prom dresses, accessories, and glam experiences.
With a passion for giving back, Nekeia created the foundation from personal experience and understanding. She knows firsthand the financial struggles and emotional pressure that can come with school activities, special events, and milestone moments. Her mission is to help ease that burden for young girls and their families by being a source of support, confidence, and encouragement.
Through Balance & Gravity Cares Foundation, Nekeia hopes to create unforgettable experiences that allow every girl to feel beautiful, celebrated, and confident during one of the most memorable moments of her life.
Her vision is simple: to inspire confidence, spread kindness, and remind every young girl that she deserves to shine.
April Scott
Community Outreach Lead
April is an Oakland/Antioch native who is deeply involved in serving and uplifting her community. She is the Co-founder of a youth black hockey program, Panthers, and currently the PTSO President at Deer Valley High School where she is passionate about creating opportunities for local youth through mentorship, sports, and community engagement.
Most notably, April is part of the third-generation family-owned business, Golden Gate Locksmith in Emeryville CA, where she is continuing a legacy of service and dedication within the Bay Area community. Through Balance & Gravity Cares Foundation, she is committed to helping make a positive impact in the lives of young girls and families.
Markeia Downs
Secretary and Social Media Lead
Markeia is a graduate of California State University, Northridge (CSUN), where she earned a degree in Media Management. She has a professional background in social work and business administration. She is passionate about supporting and uplifting communities through service, leadership, and advocacy. Through Balance & Gravity Care Foundation, Markeia is committed to helping create positive and empoweirng experiences for you girls.
LaJoya Juniel
Treasurer
LaJoya serves as the Treasurer and is also the founder of the 700 Smashy Foundation, created in loving memory of her late son. Her foundation is dedicated to promoting unity within the community through music, sports, drama, and recreational activities designed to inspire youth and help bring an end to gun violence. Lajoya is passionate about creating safe, positive spaces that empower an uplift families and communities.
